Laura Landgraf is a prime example of the good that can result from turning adversity on its ear. To meet Laura is to feel her irrepressible spirit and unrelenting will. She embodies and exudes her beautiful, victorious life. She’ll say, “Question, reach for self-discovery, make a plan, and execute it boldly. In doing so, you harness the power to soar. Laura states emphatically, “If I can do it, so can you.” And, after hearing her harrowing story of abuse and redemption, you’ll have no doubt about believing her.
Laura survived a childhood of trauma. The family avoided consequences in the United States by moving to Africa. In adulthood, Laura pushed away from her past to try to live the “perfect” life—until the moment her own children were threatened by her family. Going undercover to establish proof, Laura legally put an end to a 30-year history of child sexual abuse and ensured her children’s safety. Her children now grown, Laura lives a joyful and passionate life filled with family, music, laughter, standup paddle boarding, and empowering others.
Laura attributes much of her success in life to lessons learned from her childhood experiences and her brave fight for her own freedom and the safety of her children. She uses those experiences to underscore how anyone can tap into their strength, overcome adversity, create positive change, and succeed despite all odds.
Currently, Laura is an outspoken advocate for children of trauma, and is frequently called upon by the national media (USA Today, InTouch Weekly, CBS Television’s ‘The Insider’, etc.) and national speaker’s circuit, challenging audiences to overcome life’s obstacles, believe in yourself, and achieve one’s personal and career goals. Laura was hand selected by Arianna Huffington and is a regular contributor to the esteemed Huffington Post and Thrive Global.
Laura trains civic organizations involving children, churches, parishes, and universities to recognize adverse childhood experiences in children, how to listen when a child discloses abuse, what the next steps are, and standards of practice regarding abuse of any kind.
In her mission to empower women and men who have survived childhood trauma and protect children from sexual predators, Laura has worked with the Victim’s Assistance Program of Orange County, led adult support groups for the Adam Walsh Center in Southern California which merged into the Center for Missing and Exploited Children, did crisis intervention on their behalf, and effectively trained college staff psychologists in child abuse patterns, crisis intervention methods and brief therapies for recognition and treatment of date rape. She also served on the board of VOICES (Victims of Incest Can Emerge Survivors) and received every CE credit available at the time on child abuse, child abuse cycles, and prevention of child abuse. She continues that study to this day.
